As Furlough approaches his fourth year as CEO in January 2027, the company’s strategy emphasizes attracting entrepreneurs with management and leadership experience, expanding multi-inspector operations and delivering new technologies that support franchise owners, homebuyers, and real estate professionals.
The Executive Franchise Model, relaunched in 2024, represents a significant evolution from the traditional hands-on, owner-operator structure. The transformation reflects Furlough’s nearly three decades with Pillar To Post and his unusual career path from home inspector and franchise owner to president and CEO.
His journey began in his family’s heating and electrical business, where he gained firsthand knowledge of residential systems. After attending Appalachian State University, he entered the home inspection industry in January 1998 as a Pillar To Post master franchisee in North and South Carolina.
Over the next decade, his operation completed more than 10,000 home inspections, providing valuable insight into the challenges facing franchise owners, homebuyers, and real estate professionals.
In 2007, Furlough joined the company’s corporate leadership team, eventually becoming vice president of operations and field support. He helped transform franchise support from a largely administrative function into a proactive business-coaching system focused on performance, customer satisfaction, and long-term growth.
Promoted to senior vice president of operations in 2017, Furlough increasingly championed technological innovation designed to modernize traditional home inspection practices. His leadership helped advance digital tools including PTP360 visual tours and PTPHomeManual, making important property information more accessible to homeowners and real estate professionals.
In 2022, RISMedia recognized Furlough as a Real Estate Newsmaker in its Crusaders category for his contributions to innovation and technology serving the real estate industry.
Named president and CEO in January 2023, Furlough continued advancing the company’s digital transformation while introducing a broader vision of franchise entrepreneurship.
In a 2024 article published by Franchising.com, Furlough explained the philosophy behind the Executive Franchise Model:

Under Furlough’s leadership, Pillar To Post reported 13 consecutive quarters of market share growth through 2025, a milestone highlighted at its 2026 annual brand conference and reported by RISMedia in March 2026. The company was also inducted into Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500 Hall of Fame in 2024. In May 2025, Furlough received a Bronze Stevie Award as Maverick of the Year in the Business Services Industries category.
