Investment Advances Community Infrastructure Project and Supports Long-Term Quality of Life for Northern Nevada Residents

Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) today announced an $8 million contribution to support the construction of a new community aquatics center in Winnemucca, Nevada, reinforcing the company’s commitment to enhancing community infrastructure and improving quality of life for employees, families, and residents throughout northern Nevada.

The planned aquatics center will serve as a year-round destination for fitness, recreation, swim education, family activities, and community events. Designed to meet the needs of residents of all ages, the facility will feature modern amenities intended to expand access to safe, inclusive, and accessible recreational programming.

Initial planning for the project began in 2019, with the final facility design completed in late 2024. NGM’s contribution represents a significant milestone in the project’s development, bringing secured funding to more than 50 percent of the estimated $31 million total project cost.

“This generous contribution from Nevada Gold Mines represents a powerful commitment to our community’s future,” said Rich Stone, Mayor of Winnemucca. “The aquatics center will provide lasting benefits for Winnemucca families, from youth swim programs and water safety education to senior wellness activities and community recreation opportunities. We are deeply grateful for this partnership and the positive impact it will have on generations to come.”

Nevada Gold Mines, a joint venture operated by Barrick Mining Corporation and Newmont Corporation, has maintained a strong presence across northern Nevada and continues to invest in initiatives that support thriving rural communities and sustainable regional development.

“We are honored to partner with the City of Winnemucca on this important community project,” said Henri Gonin, Managing Director of Nevada Gold Mines. “Investing in infrastructure that strengthens local communities aligns with our commitment to creating meaningful, lasting benefits where we operate. The new aquatics center will provide opportunities for recreation, wellness, education, and community engagement for years to come.”

Financial planning and development efforts for the project are ongoing. Additional information regarding construction timelines, fundraising initiatives, and community participation opportunities is expected to be announced in the coming months.
